My Story

At the end of June I’m going to cycle 280 km from L’Arche Inverness to L’Arche Edinburgh over 4 days, to fundraise money for L’Arche Edinburgh.

The community has been my home for the last 2 years. It’s been so transformative to be a live-in assistant and to see the joys of L’Arche being lived out in it’s community and care for people, both with and without learning disabilities.

L’Arche refuses to accept society’s unkind judgement of people with learning disabilities, and believes connecting more to those around us, through intentional community has the power to create a different world. For me, this trip is a joyful rebellion. Getting out and shouting about the change we can each bring and marking the end of a deeply special time for me.

Living in L’Arche has also been challenging; working in underfunded social care which fails to see the individuals and the diverse potential each person can bring to one another and to our world. The money raised will go towards improving the lives of people with learning disabilities in the L’Arche Edinburgh community. This is an opportunity to help L’Arche continue work which values more than meeting basic needs, and build radically inclusive relationships.
